you're looking live at the auditorium at the newtown high school. about 900 people fit and an overflow in the gym of 1300 and staff and students of sandy hook elementary are actually in the crowd and they're wearing green and white ribbons. the town's and the school's colors with a small angel in the middle of them. we're told that this service will be delayed a bit because the president is still meeting with these family members and classrooms at the high school. and he's taking his time with these families in individual classrooms. we don't have a start time yet. it could be possibly at the bottom of the hour. we don't know as of yet. they'll give us the best cues they can, but he is meeting with these-- with these families one by one and also meeting with first responders. and picking up on what charles said. >> yeah, i mean, i was just going to point out when you talk about, you know, heroes and human moments and the stories that we've heard about these teachers over the course of the last 24 hours. >> the principal and-- >> the principal. >> the psychiatrist. >> and losing their l

"outfront" searching for answers. that's what we've all been doing, trying to understand how this happened and why it happened. investigators in connecticut returned to the home of the gunman. the suspected gunman, 20-year-old adam lanza, searching for evidence. so far, authorities have been unable to retrieve any information from his computer, which was found smashed to pieces in the house he lived in with his mother, nancy. now, investigators have been trying to piece together an explanation for the crucial why, why did he do this, why did he shoot and kill his mother, why did he go to school -- a school that he had no link to and shoot 20 innocent children

shooting right now. >>> good morning, everyone. i'm john berman. we're in newtown, connecticut, this morning. >> i'm kate bolduan. you're watching our continuing coverage. it feels like we've been here a long time just trying to figure out what's going on with the story. president obama will be coming here later today and meet with some of the victims' families and we're told he will speak at a vigil being held tonight. meanwhile, the community is grieving. we saw more vigils here last night really moving vigils. 20 children and 6 adults died in friday's shooting inside sandy hook elementary. we should begin hearing the first funeral plans for some of the victims very soon. we also want to pass this along. the united way has set up a sandy hook school fund. donations, as you can see right there on your screen, donations sent to the newtown savings bank 39 main street right here in newtown, connecticut. this fund will be used to help pay for the funerals of the victims, john. >>> police say they have found important evidence during their searches at the school and at the shooter

this morning spoke volumes as the nation and newtown remember what happened one week ago today. only rain drops heard during this moment. firefighters there in newtown, paying tribute to 20 young children, 6, 7 years of age and seven adults gunned down for reasons we may never know. the reflections began at 9:30 a.m. eastern time, that is the precise time that first call came in. at least 29 states held a moment of silence, put flags at half-staff, even parts of the internet went silent this morning. video gamers put down their consoles in unity and bells across connecticut state sounded for each killed at sandy hook elementary.
